“Two Fish”, an Antares 44i

The boat is a 44 feet long by 22 feet wide and has two hulls.   One can hoist two sails at a time  (Mainsail and a variety of headsails (jib, genoa, screecher and asymmetric spinnaker).   The boat is designed to be safe, comfortable and have a bit of pace.  Please note all the photos on this page of are boats that have splashed.  Two Fish is still being built.

The starboard hull is for the owners and has a master bed and bath.   It also has closets and dressers which some boat manufacturers have the belief that blue ocean sailors do not need a place to store their clothes.   Are we all nudists or just never change clothes?   The port hull has a guest cabin similar to the master, the galley and a a second head.   The third cabin is hybrid as the bearth sets high up on top some extra storage.

“A boat must be more than a crucible to comfort the crew.  It must be a home.”

On deck the boat is set up for a crew of two with all lines led to the cockpit, an easy in boom reefing system and power winches.   At anchor the comforts continue with air conditioning, dive compressor and a water maker.

The boat is not for day sailing so it lacks a tiller.    Instead the helm person is sheltered from the elements and has a comfy wheel to guide the boat.  Two can sail the boat through all the maneuvers and one can person can handle driving the boat alone.   Two of the winches are powered to make hoisting the main and other tasks easier.   The boat has twin Volvo 40 HP diesel engines which makes controlling the yacht in tight quarters easier.

Outside there is nice dining area and plenty of places to read books, fish and BBQ.   The boat has a davit for the dingy and storage space for a stand up paddle board.    There are underwater lights to create a platform for night time fish watching.

Floor plan of boat

Most of our time will be spent in the cockpit which has the helm seat which flips from navigation position facing forward to social position facing aft.   There is also space for 6 around the folding table.   I plan to roost on the chez longe located in the middle of the action which will be a great place to read and blog post.

When we retreat indoors to avoid the elements the salon has a seating capacity similar to a VW bug for clowns.   I think it may be listed for 6 people but I have seen many more comfortable congragated about the table.   The navigation station is sensibly place looking forward.   Who thinks  looking aft  while navigating a boat is a safe idea?

Mid ships port is the galley with kitchen that matches a small efficiency apartment.   (microwave, oven, cooktop (hob for you brits),  fridge, and freezer.  The final room on port is a large bunk bed forward with storage underneath and a bathroom.  This allows the boat to sleep 6, its not the Four Season but will be paradise for us.
